Welcome to the homepage of the Festivus Wordpress theme! As you may have guessed, Festivus is, “a theme for the rest of us.” There are so many purported premium Wordpress themes floating around — especially in the magazine theme and newspaper theme categories — and they are laden with costs and licenses which make them unattractive to people like myself. Those costs and licenses were all the inspiration I needed to try and create a theme of my own.
Below are some of the features and goals of the Festivus theme:
- Free for anybody to use
- Free for anybody to modify in any way, including removing the credits
- Feature articles
- Tabbed sidebar
- Ajax “Web 2.0-enabled” features
- Removable ad space built in
- Admin option screen for editing ad space and search box
It’s still an early work-in-progress, but I’ll start packaging it up as soon as there’s interest. If you want to play with it before it’s packaged, leave some feedback and I’ll send you a copy.
Here are some of the next things on my list to do:
- Fix text formatting. There are still some residual elements from the Wordpress Classic theme that I used as a skeleton.
Finish getting the tabs working in the sidebar.- Make the feature images and thumbnails even easier to use (though it’s not hard now.)
- Decide on a way to widgetize the sidebar in case there are people who want to add to it without coding.
Note for those who really don’t know: Choosing Festivus as a name for this theme comes from the “Festivus for the rest of us” line made popular by Seinfeld in 1997.
